Jarosław Town Hall occupies the central spot on the market square, surrounded by the historic townhouses of a former merchant town. Its history goes back to the 15th century, when a wooden building still stood here. The present four-storey structure with a clock tower is the result of successive rebuildings and is Neo-Renaissance in style.
It has housed the municipal authorities from the very beginning and still does today, with the mayor and city officials working inside. That role was not unbroken, though: in the 18th century the building served as a military warehouse. A curiosity is the tower clock, made at Richard Liebing's tower clock factory in Vienna and installed in 1896.
You can enter the interior during the city office's opening hours. The tower normally remains closed because of the mobile phone transmitters installed in it, and is opened only on special occasions such as the night of culture. It is worth combining the visit with a walk around the square and a descent into the Jarosław cellars.
