Rynek 1, Cieszyn
Cieszyn Town Hall stands in the southern frontage of the market square and is its most imposing building. The first town hall was raised here at the end of the 15th century, but its original form has not survived, as the building was repeatedly destroyed by fires. Its present appearance comes from a 19th-century rebuilding.
The structure is Classicist, though the detailing still betrays earlier building phases and influences of other styles. Every day at noon a bugle call sounds from the tower, and its melody refers to the Beskid folk song „Helo, Helo, Helenko, jakus Ci się pasie?”, which sets it apart from typical town bugle calls.
The building still serves the municipal authorities, and one of the historic rooms has been made available for civil wedding ceremonies. The square with the town hall is a natural starting point for exploring Cieszyn: the Castle Hill with St Nicholas Rotunda, the Well of the Three Brothers and the border bridge to Czech Těšín are all close by.
