The heavy combat bunker "Wędrowiec" stands in Węgierska Górka in the Żywiec district, in the Żywiec Beskids. It was built in the summer of 1939 as one of five reinforced-concrete works meant to seal the valley against an advancing enemy, and served as a command bunker.
In the first days of the war its crew — an officer, three non-commissioned officers and fifteen privates — defended Węgierska Górka against the German advance. The bunker was armed with a Bofors anti-tank gun, three Browning machine guns, two flare launchers, a grenade chute, an optical signalling post and loopholes for small arms.
The structure has survived in good condition and is open to visitors in summer. Inside, a museum explains the history of the defence and the conditions of service. Guns and pieces of equipment stand in front of the bunker, and the square is sometimes used for historical re-enactments.
