The Warsaw Gate is the only surviving gate in the ring of Opatów's former defensive walls. The town had four of them — besides the Warsaw Gate there were the Lublin, Cracow and Sandomierz gates. A stretch of the town walls has survived right beside it.
The building was raised on a square plan. Of the originally multi-storey tower, the ground floor and one upper storey remain, crowned with a restored Renaissance attic, with a wooden ceiling spanning the interior. Two loopholes are visible in the walls, and above the passage sit the coat of arms of the Szydłowiecki family and an image of the Virgin Mary set there in 1922, on the anniversary of the Battle of Warsaw.
The gate is viewed mainly from the outside — walking around it and studying the details takes a quarter of an hour. Inside there is a tourist information point selling souvenirs, a good starting place for exploring Opatów and the nearby collegiate church of St Martin.
