ul. Kościuszki 101, Kudowa-Zdrój
The Moving Nativity Scene is housed in a historic cottage in Czermna, a district of Kudowa-Zdrój, a few hundred metres from the well-known Chapel of Skulls. It was made by the local carver Frantisek Stepan, who worked on the installation for some twenty years.
The structure is about four metres high and holds close to 250 figures carved in lime wood. Among them one can recognise miniatures of the town hall in Kłodzko, town houses from Duszniki-Zdrój and the basilicas in Bardo and Wambierzyce. The mechanism was originally hand-driven and later powered by a motor.
The visit is short, around half an hour, and works in any weather, also with children. Admission is free, though visitors customarily leave a donation towards the upkeep of the figures and mechanisms. The same cottage holds a historic organ.
