The Kościuszko Mound rises on St Bronisława Hill in the western part of Cracow, at over three hundred metres above sea level. Raised in honour of Tadeusz Kościuszko, it is one of five mounds in the city and has been recognised as a Historic Monument.
The platform on top offers a wide panorama of the city, the Vistula valley and, in good visibility, the Tatra Mountains. The mound is enclosed by a 19th-century citadel fort of the Austrian Kraków Fortress, housing the Kościuszko Museum with a multimedia exhibition and a display of wax figures.
A spiral path leads to the top and takes a dozen or so minutes; the whole visit is worth about an hour. A separate sightseeing route has been prepared for children. The hill adjoins Wolski Forest, convenient for a longer walk afterwards.
