Wieś Czerna
Diabelski Most is the ruin of a stone crossing in the Eliaszówka valley near Czerna, in the Kraków district, at the edge of the Kraków-Częstochowa Jura. It was built at the end of the 17th century as an access road to the Carmelite estate in Siedlec. The name refers to local legends whose hero is the devil.
The bridge was styled after a Roman aqueduct, a rare solution in Poland. It was originally about 120 metres long, carried on eleven arches and decorated with balustrades and figures of saints at both ends. Less than a century after completion the spans partly collapsed and the crossing was closed; it was never rebuilt.
Only fragments of piers and arches remain, absorbed by the woodland above the stream, which gives the place a raw, romantic mood; it looks best in early spring, before the greenery hides the ruins. A forest path leads there from Czerna, past the monastery of the Discalced Carmelites, worth adding to the same trip.
