Geosfera is a centre for ecological and geological education laid out in the pit of the former Sodowa Góra quarry, where Triassic limestone was extracted, on the outskirts of Jaworzno. The exposed rock walls reveal layers millions of years old, and the whole site is freely accessible, lit and open without time limits.
The rocks and displays show fossils of molluscs, cephalopods, echinoderms and fish, as well as ripple marks, traces of an ancient sea preserved in stone. Boards and themed trails explain the geology of the area, and plant collections grow alongside. The centre also runs classes, demonstrations and outdoor events.
It works well for a few hours with children: besides the geological part there is a large playground, a barbecue area and an amphitheatre used for events. A cycling route was laid out around the pit, allowing a full loop of the site. Visiting is free-form, with no set order.
