Kłodzko
The Gothic bridge over the Młynówka is one of the emblems of Kłodzko and among the oldest surviving structures in the town. The stone crossing links Wyspa Piasek with the fortress hill that carries the market square and the Kłodzko stronghold. Its silhouette and the sculptures set along its parapets earned it the nickname of the Little Charles Bridge, after the crossing in Prague.
Construction began in the second half of the thirteenth century and the bridge was repaired many times afterwards. The blocks were bonded with a mortar of lime, sand and hen's egg white. The structure is also known as St John's Bridge or, unofficially, as the Wit Stwosz Bridge.
Two gates, Upper and Lower, once guarded the crossing; neither survives. The bridge is open to pedestrians only and lies on the natural walking route through the old town, so seeing it takes a quarter of an hour.
