Trójstyk Wisztyniec (Wisztyniec Tripoint)

Bolcie, Wieś Bolcie

  • Tripoints and Border Landmarks

Where three countries meet

The Wisztyniec Tripoint lies by the village of Bolcie in Suwałki County, at the north-eastern tip of Poland. This is where the borders of Poland, Lithuania and the Kaliningrad Oblast converge. The meeting point itself is marked by a stone monolith, with the course of the border lines laid out around it. The name comes from the nearby Lake Wisztyniec.

Visiting

You may walk freely around the monolith, but only the Polish–Lithuanian border can be crossed — the Russian side remains off limits. An information board at the site explains the rules for moving within the border zone. A webcam operates here, so you can wave to viewers watching the live stream. From the car park runs a 450-metre educational trail, “Tripoint of Borders – the Pole of Cold”.

The surroundings

The Bolcie area is among the coldest places in Poland, hence the name of the trail. All around stretch the rolling landscapes of the Suwałki region, with post-glacial lakes and sparse settlement. A modern county car park with toilets, shelters and picnic spots has been built by the tripoint, a convenient base for exploring the region.
