A Bieszczady dam on the San

The dam in Myczkowce holds back the San river in Lesko County, a few kilometres downstream from the far better known dam in Solina. It was built earlier than the one in Solina and together they form the Solina–Myczkowce hydroelectric complex. The impoundment created Lake Myczkowieckie, a long ribbon of water squeezed between wooded slopes.

A quieter alternative

Tourist traffic concentrates in Solina, so Myczkowce is noticeably calmer. Recreation here goes on without the crowds: kayaking and other water sports, angling, walks along the shore. A trail of several kilometres, the Blue Teardrop, runs around the reservoir and makes a convenient short outing with views of the water and the surrounding hills.

Worth knowing

The area is valuable for its nature — birds of prey, including the lesser spotted eagle, can be spotted above the valley. In 2017 archaeologists uncovered well preserved traces of medieval settlement here. The Myczkowce reservoir is many times smaller than the one in Solina, yet its power plant still contributes appreciably to electricity generation.
