Bulwar Filadelfijski 10, Toruń
Bunkier Wisła is an underground site in Toruń on the Philadelphia Boulevard, just below the old town listed by UNESCO. It was built during the Second World War as an air-raid shelter and lies about three metres below ground level. The entrance is close to the black naval mine standing on the square named after the Naval Officers School.
The interiors have been converted into a modern exhibition on the war and civil defence. The centrepiece of a visit is a show of just over a quarter of an hour simulating a bombing raid, with sirens, vibration and shifting light. Visitors can also join a city game set in the reality of the occupied town. The site is run by the House of Toruń Legends.
A visit takes roughly an hour and complements a walk through the old town well, especially on a rainy day. Because the show is loud and takes place in darkness, it is not suited to the youngest children. Note that during heavy rainfall the site may be closed, so it is worth checking availability in advance.
