A forest spring below Słone hill

Źródełko Maryi lies in woodland on the edge of Kudowa-Zdrój, at the foot of Słone hill in the Stołowe Mountains. The water emerges in a shady, green corner reached by walking paths from the spa district. The place is visited both by tourists and by patients from the nearby sanatoriums, for whom it is a natural goal for a short outing.

The chapel and the legend

A chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows stands by the spring and is sometimes called an informal sanctuary in the Green Valley. Its beginnings are linked to the first half of the 19th century and to the story of a forester who hung an image of the Virgin on a tree and, while praying, noticed a spring welling up from among the roots. The water has been credited with healing power ever since.

In practice

From May to September masses are celebrated in the chapel, and people often come to the spring to fill bottles. The approach follows a forest path, in places steep and uneven, so proper shoes are better. The visit is easy to combine with a walk through the Kudowa spa park or a trip into the Stołowe Mountains.
