Glasshouses in the shadow of Książ Castle

The palm house stands in the Lubiechów district of Wałbrzych, a few hundred metres from Książ Castle, and is most often visited alongside the residence, since the castle ticket also covers admission here. The complex was created in the early 20th century on the initiative of the owners of Książ and was designed from the start to combine hothouses, a rosarium and productive gardens.

The plant collection

Under glass grow some 250 species from almost every climate zone: palms, succulents, tropical and Mediterranean plants, arranged across several pavilions with different temperature and humidity. A separate highlight is the bonsai display, one of the most interesting in the country; the oldest specimens are about two hundred years old.

Good to know

There is a cafe on site and a shop where some of the species on show can be bought. The place is open all year and works particularly well on cold, rainy days. The palm house itself takes about an hour, while the neighbouring Książ Castle and its terraces easily stretch the visit to a full day.
