The Winckler Palace in the Miechowice district of Bytom is what remains of one of the grandest residences of the Upper Silesian industrial elite. The Classicist seat was built in the early 19th century, and its best-known owner was Franz Winckler — a miner who rose to become an industrial magnate.
In 1844 a tornado destroyed the building; the reconstruction gave it a Neo-Gothic character, and barely two decades later a left wing was added. The estate stayed in Winckler hands until 1925, then passed to a company tied to the nearby coal mine. In 1945 the palace was looted and burned, and in 1954 the remaining walls were blown up.
Only the outbuilding remains; after the 2019 restoration it regained its former appearance and now houses a branch of the Bytom Cultural Centre, hosting author meetings, film screenings and theatre events. The former park belongs to the city and works as Park Ludowy; both are listed monuments.
