What this place is

The castle in Rogów Opolski stands by an oxbow of the Oder, in a park ringed by a moat, within the Krapkowice municipality. The Renaissance seat was raised in the 16th century for the Rogoyski family, and later rebuilding added Classicist features.

History

After the Second World War the building served a state farm as a grain store and quickly fell into disrepair. The turning point came in 1965, when it was handed over to the Provincial Public Library in Opole — the reconstruction restored the castle's former look, and the institution cares for it to this day.

Visiting

Tours are guided: the route covers the fireplace room, the conference room and the exhibition hall, rounded off by a film about the site's history. The castle keeps special collections of early printed books and also runs a guesthouse. A stone three-arch bridge over the moat leads to the gate.
