Kobiór, Wieś Kobiór
The Promnice Hunting Lodge stands among forests near Kobiór and Tychy, by Lake Paprocany, within the former Pszczyna Wilderness. It was built in the 19th century as a hunting residence and is one of the few surviving examples of a forest castle in Europe.
The building blends several stylistic conventions: elements of German Renaissance, Swiss timber construction and neo-Gothic, with richly worked facade detail, bay windows and wooden porches. A figure of Saint Hubert, patron of hunters, stands in the courtyard. The setting is formed by old tree stands and the lake shore.
Until 2018 the lodge housed a hotel with a restaurant. The site is now in the care of the Castle Museum in Pszczyna, which is preparing it to receive visitors. Because of ongoing maintenance and conservation works, visits to the interiors are suspended — the building can only be viewed from outside, from the forest and lake side.
