The ruins of the Hatzfeldt Palace stand in Żmigród, within the Barycz Valley Landscape Park north of Wrocław. The Baroque residence was built in 1655 for the von Hatzfeldt family, which held it until the Second World War; the building was extended several times.
In 1813 the palace hosted alliance talks that shaped the balance of power in Europe after the Napoleonic Wars. In 1945 the building was burned almost to the ground and has since functioned as a permanent ruin, secured and included in the historic park complex.
Next to the ruins stands a 16th-century castle tower, the oldest element of the whole complex. In the southern part of the former garden the remains of an orangery are visible, and everything is surrounded by a park on the Barycz, good for a short walk combined with birdwatching in the Barycz Valley.
