Kamieniec, Susz
The palace in Kamieniec near Susz was built in the first half of the 18th century in the French Baroque style. The name Finckenstein comes from its founder, Albrecht Konrad Finck von Finckenstein. The residence was ruined during the Second World War and a fire in 1947 completed its destruction.
The estate once included a vast courtyard, farm buildings, a French-style garden, a brewery, a chapel and a family cemetery. In the spring of 1807 Napoleon Bonaparte stayed here. The interiors were adorned with marble floors, stucco fireplaces and walls lined with silk and leather.
What remains are walls that draw tourists, photographers and urban explorers. The site is freely accessible but neither guarded nor secured, so move carefully and keep away from crumbling masonry. Walking around the complex usually takes about half an hour.
