The summer residence of Jan Klemens Branicki was built in the second half of the 18th century near Białystok. The small, elegant palace stands on an artificial island surrounded by canals, with a nearly twenty-five-hectare garden laid out in the French manner. The complex was reconstructed after wartime destruction.
The palace houses a branch of the Podlasie Museum in Białystok. The displays present furnishings of the 18th and 19th centuries: Polish, English and French furniture, decorative crafts, glass, European porcelain, clocks and carpets. You can tour on your own or with a guide.
Walking the avenues, canals and terraces is as much a part of the visit as the rooms themselves — this water-and-garden layout is unique in Poland. The museum also runs temporary exhibitions and educational workshops for groups.
