The Walewski manor in Nagłowice

The museum occupies a manor house from the early 19th century, built in Nagłowice on the site of Mikołaj Rej's family home. It was here that the writer ran his estate and created part of his work. The museum devoted to him opened on the four hundredth anniversary of his death.

The collection

The displays present the life and writing of the father of Polish literature: works, manuscripts, reproductions and keepsakes linked to the writer. Woodcuts with Rej's texts stand out, showing what a 16th-century book looked like.

Park and facilities

A French-style park surrounds the manor, with terraces, ancient oaks and remains of a geometric garden — a good place for a walk after the tour. The building also holds a tourist information point and guest rooms.

  • Parking at the manor
  • Ticket office and exhibitions
  • Tourist information point
  • Park with walking avenues
Visit duration: approx. 1 hour Seasonality: Open all year; the park is at its best in spring and summer
