Kashubian heritage in the Przebendowski Palace

The Museum of Kashubian-Pomeranian Writing and Music occupies a historic palace beside the park in the centre of Wejherowo, a town regarded as the spiritual capital of Kashubia. The institution collects manuscripts, early prints and ethnographic material documenting the language and culture of the region.

The collections

The core of the collection consists of first editions and later printings of books and songbooks in Kashubian, a set unique on a world scale. Alongside them are mementoes of the creators of Kashubian literature, instruments and everyday objects illustrating regional folklore. The permanent display is complemented by temporary exhibitions of artists connected with Pomerania.

Who it suits

The museum also works as a cultural centre: it hosts author meetings, concerts and events promoting the Kashubian language. Children and teenagers can take part in music and art workshops as well as museum games. It makes a good stop while visiting the Wejherowo Calvary and the Tricity Landscape Park.
