The Ducal Tower in Siedlęcin stands above the river Bóbr a few kilometres from Jelenia Góra, by an old crossing. Construction began in 1313, probably by order of Duke Henry I of Jawor. The building combined defensive and residential functions, changed owners over the centuries and was repeatedly extended.
The tower's greatest treasure are the Gothic wall paintings showing scenes from the legend of Sir Lancelot of the Lake — the only ones preserved in their original location anywhere in the world. Some of the oldest wooden ceilings in Poland and a display of archaeological findings also deserve attention.
Since 2001 the tower has been cared for by the Chudów Castle Foundation, which restored the building and opened it to visitors. It is one of the largest surviving residential towers in Europe. Jelenia Góra and the trails of the Rudawy Janowickie are close by.
