A museum in a merchant's villa

The Sopot Museum occupies the historic villa of the Gdańsk merchant Ernst Claaszen, built in 1903 on Księcia Józefa Poniatowskiego Street, a few steps from the beach. The house itself is part of the exhibition — its early 20th-century decor and furnishings have been preserved.

The exhibition

The permanent display tells the story of Sopot and the region, from a fishing village to a fashionable seaside resort. Alongside the furniture, household objects and mementoes from the villa there are temporary and open-air exhibitions, often devoted to artists connected with the town.

For visitors

The museum runs lessons for kindergarten and school groups and workshops for families with children. Its calendar regularly features concerts, exhibition openings, lectures and meetings with authors. Sunday is the day of free admission to the exhibition.
