A country manor in the Sandomierz region

The manor in Śmiłów near Czyżów Szlachecki was built in the second half of the 18th century for Józef Wierciński, owner of the surrounding estates. Construction went through three stages, each enlarging and remodelling the residence, so its form combines features of the turn of the 19th century.

The manor complex

The manor stands at the heart of the layout, with a park and former farm buildings including an annexe preserved around it. After 1945 the estate was taken over by the state, and successive institutions neglected the building; its rescue came when Bogdan and Janina Szczerbowski bought the manor and park in 1985.

The manor today

The site is cared for by the Society for the Promotion of Old Polish Culture "Śmiłowski Dwór". Visitors view meticulously restored interiors and furnishings, then stroll through the surrounding park. It is best to arrange a visit by phone, as the manor is not open every day.
