Wieś Poręba Żegoty
In Poręba Żegoty, in the Alwernia municipality, stand the picturesque ruins of an 18th-century palace, originally built in the Rococo-Classicist style and extended right up to the early 20th century. The residence passed through several well-known families and burned down during the fighting in 1945.
The walls of the former palace survive to this day, along with a four-hectare park containing trees designated as natural monuments. The park also holds the Szembek mausoleum of 1921. The site is popular with lovers of photography and abandoned architecture.
Entering the grounds is not forbidden, but the structure has not been secured — the walls are crumbling and the ground is uneven and overgrown. A short visit calls for caution, especially with children, and it is safer to view the building from the outside than to step inside.
