Szymbark, Gorlice
The kasztel in Szymbark stands a few kilometres east of Gorlice, in the Ropa valley at the foot of the Low Beskids. It was raised at the end of the 16th century on the initiative of the Gładysz family as a building combining residential, defensive and representative roles. It is one of the few surviving Polish examples of this type of seat.
The compact rectangular block with corner oriels and an attic parapet ranks among the finest Renaissance works in Lesser Poland. Stone door surrounds, fragments of wall paintings and remains of fireplaces have survived inside. The exhibitions present the former owners, the furnishings of manor interiors and the Renaissance era.
The site belongs to the Karwacjan and Gładysz Manors Museum in Gorlice and serves as a conference and exhibition centre. Alongside the permanent displays there are temporary exhibitions, art workshops and museum lessons for children and young people, including heraldry and craft classes.
