plac Tadeusza Kościuszki, Darłowo
The market square in Darłowo, also known as Kościuszko Square, is the central plaza of the old town, a few kilometres from the seaside district of Darłówko. The layout of the square and the surrounding lanes has kept its medieval shape, and the frontages are formed by burgher houses, largely Baroque.
The unusual town hall draws attention: it was adapted from former market halls after the previous building burned down, and only a Renaissance portal above the entrance survived from the original seat. In the middle of the square stands the Fisherman Monument, which doubles as a fountain and as the town's unofficial symbol. The Gothic St Mary's church rises nearby.
It is a convenient stop for holidaymakers from the nearby coastal resorts — a walk around the square takes half an hour, and cafés and eateries operate around it. In summer the plaza hosts concerts and town events.
