Rynek, Gostyń
The market square in Gostyń is the main plaza of this town in southern Greater Poland, turned into a largely pedestrian space after the redevelopment completed in 2021. A busy street used to run through it; today the paving, greenery and two fountains are given over to strollers.
The frontage is closed by the town hall from the early 19th century, erected after the previous one burned down and still serving as the seat of the town authorities. Around it stand restored burgher houses, a monument to the Sacred Heart and a memorial to the residents executed on this square during the Second World War.
A curiosity is the musical bench dedicated to the composer Józef Zeidler, associated with nearby Święta Góra, along with a historic water pump. In summer the fountains are the children's favourite, and the square makes a good starting point for exploring the town.
