Rynek, Skoczów
The Market Square in Skoczów is a quadrangular space of medieval origin, typical of the chartered towns of this region. It forms the centre of a small town in the Cieszyn district and the most convenient starting point for sightseeing. Car traffic runs around the square, so take care when crossing the road.
In the middle of the square stands a fountain with the image of St Jonah, surrounded by a small cobbled area. The western frontage holds the historic 18th-century town hall, and next to it, within the row of townhouses, the birthplace of St John Sarkander, home to the parish museum named after him. The façades of the houses at numbers 10, 14, 15 and 16 deserve particular attention.
The Skoczów walking trails begin at the square and lead to the most interesting spots in the town and its surroundings. Seeing the square itself takes half an hour, and the nearby cafés and shops make it easy to combine with a short break.
