Rynek, Olesno
The market square is the central plaza of Olesno, a small town at the eastern edge of the Opole region. Its middle is taken up by a green island with trees and benches, and along its axis sits a fountain set flush into the paving — crowded with children in summer and illuminated in the evening.
On opposite sides of the green stand two small religious monuments: a Marian Column from 1697 and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk from 1753. The town hall also draws the eye, raised in 1820–1821 on the site of an earlier one destroyed by fire. Its façade was kept in a Neoclassical spirit; the clock tower that once crowned the building was not rebuilt after the war.
The square is open all year and there is no charge of any kind. Eateries and shops operate around it. The square is at its most atmospheric in the pre-Christmas weeks, when colourful illuminations appear on the buildings and in the fountain.
