The main town square

The market square in Chrzanów is the central plaza of this Lesser Poland town, located on the border with Upper Silesia. A thorough refurbishment in 2021–2022 gave it a new layout: flower beds, benches, a fountain and chess tables, with part of the paved area left free for open-air events.

What to see

The square is lined with colourful tenement houses from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The oldest and most richly decorated one stands at number 13 and was built in 1905–1907. The urban layout itself is also striking — the plan of the square and of the streets radiating from it has remained unchanged since the Middle Ages.

Who it suits

This is a stop for a short walk and a rest rather than a full day of sightseeing. The flat, cobbled surface is convenient for prams and wheelchairs, and in summer restaurant gardens operate around the square, along with fairs and concerts. The square is also a natural starting point for exploring the rest of Chrzanów.
