Kościuszko Square in Gdynia

Skwer Tadeusza Kościuszki, Gdynia

  • Nature & Landscape
  • Piers and Waterfront Promenades

Gdynia's maritime showpiece

Skwer Kościuszki is the representative axis of Gdynia's centre, running from Świętojańska Street straight to the waterfront and the Bay of Gdańsk. It was laid out together with the modernist city centre between the world wars and remains its most recognisable public space and main promenade.

Ships and museums

Two icons are moored at the South Pier: the museum warship ORP Błyskawica and the sailing ship Dar Pomorza, both open to visitors. Excursion boats also depart from here for cruises around the bay. The Gdynia Aquarium with its marine life displays sits right by the square, and the Gdynia City Museum and the Naval Museum are a few steps away.

Who it suits and when

The square is a good starting point for exploring Gdynia: restaurants and fish bars line its sides, and the end of the pier opens a view of the port and the roadstead. Walking one way takes a quarter of an hour, with stops at the attractions even half a day. The Seaside Boulevard continues towards Kamienna Góra and Orłowo.

  • Ticket offices of the museum ships and bay cruises
  • Paid parking in the city centre
