Stary Rynek, Puck
The Old Market Square in Puck is the central plaza of this seaside town, and its layout goes back to the Middle Ages. You can see it in the pattern of the narrow streets running off it and in the compact frontages. Originally it was a place of trade — a fish market operated here — and today it serves as the main meeting point for residents and for visitors holidaying on the Bay of Puck.
The square is framed by colourful townhouses, mostly from the 18th century, with facades modelled on buildings in Gdańsk (Danzig). One of them holds the Museum of the Puck Land, with displays on the history of the town and the culture of the region. The ground floors of the other houses hold souvenir shops, cafés and restaurants, with outdoor seating in summer.
On the square stands a bench with figures of a lion and a fish, referring to a local legend explained on an information board beside it. Trees and benches make the plaza a convenient stop before walking on towards the Puck marina and the wooden pier.
