Plac Niepodległości, Kórnik
The market square in Kórnik is an elongated rectangle with a neo-Baroque town hall at its centre, topped by a mansard roof and a small tower. The square forms the core of the town and a convenient starting point for the castle and the arboretum. Every day at noon a bugle call preceded by a cockerel's crow sounds from the tower.
The frontages are lined with historic townhouses, mostly from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, with shops and services on the ground floors. A modern fountain, illuminated after dark, stands on the square along with period lamps and hydrants. The southern side is closed by the neo-Baroque church of All Saints.
From the square it is a short walk to the Wisława Szymborska promenade by Lake Kórnickie and to Kórnik Castle with its arboretum. A stroll around the square itself takes a quarter of an hour, but combined with those sites it fills half a day. Entry to the square is free all year.
