A museum in a burgher townhouse

The Museum in Lębork occupies a historic burgher townhouse in the centre of the town, on Młynarska street. The institution collects and presents holdings devoted to the history of Lębork and the surrounding Lębork Land, with the displays spread over several floors of the building, from the ground floor up to the attic.

The exhibitions

The history department leads visitors from the early Middle Ages and the founding of the town, through the times of the Teutonic Order, up to the present day. On show are furniture from various periods, pewter vessels, iconography, old maps and postcards, and photographs of the town from the 1930s. Higher up is the archaeological exhibition "Discovering the Past", and on the next floor a numismatic collection, a display about Paul Nipkow — inventor of the Nipkow disk — and a reconstructed Kashubian cottage interior.

Good to know

The attic houses the contemporary art gallery "Steep Stairs", showing works by recognised artists. The museum runs craft and art workshops, with the current schedule published on its website. By the exit there is a museum shop with souvenirs, handicraft and local guidebooks.
