plac Litewski, Lublin
The Multimedia Fountain in Lublin works in the very centre of the city, on Plac Litewski, the main promenade and meeting place of the townspeople. By day it looks like an ordinary city fountain; after dark it turns into a stage for shows of light, water and sound.
It is in fact a set of fountains: 227 nozzles and 319 floodlights create colourful sequences synchronised with music and narration. A single show lasts from a few up to twenty minutes, and the scripts refer to the city's history, among others the Union of Lublin and national anniversaries. The show season runs from May to September, usually on Fridays and Saturdays; the current schedule is published by the city.
After its redevelopment Plac Litewski offers wide walkways, lawns and benches, framed by the palaces and townhouses of Krakowskie Przedmieście. The Kraków Gate and Lublin's old town are a quarter of an hour's walk away.
