Ostrów Lednicki is an island on Lake Lednica in Greater Poland, where one of the most important Piast strongholds operated in the early Middle Ages. The site is linked with the hypothesis about the baptism of Mieszko I.
The island preserves the remains of a stone palatium with a chapel on a Greek cross plan, basins interpreted as baptismal, the foundations of the stronghold church and of the cemetery, as well as remnants of the wooden bridges that joined the stronghold with the lake shores. Access leads through the Museum of the First Piasts in Dziekanowice, which cares for the site.
The exhibitions present finds recovered among others from the lake bed: an extensive collection of early medieval weapons, that is swords, spears and axes, as well as liturgical vessels and a reliquary. Alongside the permanent displays, temporary exhibitions are shown. Visiting the island requires crossing the water.
