The largest church in Poland

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Licheń lies in Licheń Stary in Greater Poland and is the largest church in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. The basilica, crowned with a vast dome, was built from 1994 and opened in 2004. It stands at a place linked with the apparitions recounted in the tradition of the nearby Grąblin Forest.

What to see

Inside the basilica are the miraculous image of Our Lady of Licheń and an organ and a bell that rank among the largest in the country. A viewing terrace with a panorama of the area is open to visitors. The grounds also hold a stone mound with a Way of the Cross, and a vast square stretches in front of the church.

Who it suits

It is a destination for pilgrims all year round, but also an architecturally interesting site for sightseers. On site there are the Fr J. Jarzębowski Museum, a pilgrim service point, pilgrim houses, souvenir shops and catering. Visits can be made independently or with a guide.
