32-047 Ojców, Wieś Ojców
The wooden chapel of St Joseph the Worker stands in the Prądnik valley within Ojców National Park, resting on pillars directly above the stream. It was created by converting the former spa bathhouse of the Ojców resort and is one of the most recognisable buildings of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland.
Local tradition holds that placing the chapel over water was a response to a tsarist ban on building churches on Ojców soil. The structure combines Swiss-style spa architecture with Zakopane detailing, which is why it is sometimes called Ojców-Swiss.
Inside, three altars shaped like the gables of peasant cottages draw attention, along with the painting of Our Lady of Succour and the patriotic symbolism of eagles and serpents. Nearby lie St John's spring and the Goplana clearing, with Ojców castle and the park's trails close at hand.
