ul. Kolegiacka 1A, Zamość
The Cathedral of the Resurrection and Saint Thomas the Apostle stands within the old town of Zamość. It was built in the 16th century, founded by Jan Zamoyski to a design by Bernardo Morando, author of the plan of the ideal fortress town.
The building is among the most important works of the Lublin Renaissance. Inside, attention is drawn by the late Baroque altar with a painting of Saint Thomas the Apostle, the silver Rococo tabernacle and the chapels in the side aisles with their rich paintings and stucco work. The crypts are also open to visitors, holding the burials of the Zamoyski entail lords and of clergy connected with the chapter.
Beside the church stands a free-standing bell tower from the second half of the 18th century with three bells; it can be climbed in the summer season. The cathedral is one of the points on the Lublin Renaissance Trail and combines well with a walk around the Great Market Square.
