The church of St. John of Nepomuk in Zwierzyniec stands on an island in the Church Pond, in the very centre of the town at the gates of the Roztocze National Park. A short causeway leads to it, so the church seems to float on the water, hence its popular name, the church on the water.
The Baroque building of brick and stone was raised at the end of the 18th century by the Zamoyski family, owners of the Zamość Entail, for whom Zwierzyniec was a summer residence. At first it served as a palace chapel, and the side aisles were added later. Next to it stand a wooden bell tower and a small cemetery.
Inside, the polychromes and the main altar with the image of Our Lady of Częstochowa have survived; the altar is usually covered by a painting of St. John of Nepomuk. There are also two side chapels and a historic organ from the early 20th century. The pond with the mirrored church is one of the most photographed views of Roztocze, and the brewery and the national park trails are close by.
