ul. Na Śnieżkę 8, Karpacz
A wooden stave church from the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, originally built in the Norwegian village of Vang. Sold by the local parish, it travelled via Szczecin and Berlin to Karpacz, where it was reassembled in 1842. It is the oldest building of its kind in Poland.
The whole structure was put together without nails — the parts are joined by wooden pegs and tenons. The portals and column capitals are covered with interlace ornament of Viking origin. Some details were made on the spot, because not all of the shipped fragments were fit for reassembly. A stone bell tower beside it shields the church from the wind.
The church belongs to an Evangelical-Augsburg parish, still serves liturgical purposes and is open to visitors at the same time. A small cemetery surrounds it, holding the ashes of the poet Tadeusz Różewicz. The approach leads uphill from the centre of Karpacz along Na Śnieżkę street.
