Tresna, Wieś Tresna
The Tresna Dam closes the Soła valley on the border of the Beskid Mały and Beskid Żywiecki ranges, in Żywiec County, and creates Lake Żywieckie — the largest reservoir of the Soła cascade. It was built between 1960 and 1966, and its crest, about 300 metres long, now doubles as a natural viewpoint over the water and the surrounding peaks.
The crest offers a panorama of the lake, the Beskid ranges and the town of Żywiec. The technical parts of the structure are clearly visible: spillways, water intakes and the massive body of the dam. Walking along the crest takes a quarter of an hour, and roads and paths suitable for cycling run around the shores, with plenty of places for a short stop.
Lake Żywieckie is the recreational hub of the whole region: bathing areas, marinas, water sports rentals and campsites are spread along its shores. Downstream the Soła forms further reservoirs of the cascade — Międzybrodzkie and Czanieckie. Nearby lies Żywiec with its castle and park, and the trails up Góra Żar.
