A crossing over the Dziwna

The bascule bridge in Dziwnów links the banks of the Dziwna strait and carries regional road no. 102 from the island of Wolin to the mainland. The steel structure, painted bright red, was opened in 1994, replacing an earlier crossing. It bears the name of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity and is one of the town's landmarks.

Raising the bridge

The span is lifted to let yachts and fishing boats pass from the port towards the Baltic and the Szczecin Lagoon. The operation takes a few minutes and follows a fixed timetable in season, while off season it depends on shipping needs. The moment of opening draws sizeable crowds onto the quays.

The area

The fishing port and the promenade along the Dziwna lie right by the bridge, and a broad sandy beach with a pier is a few hundred metres away. Dziwnów is a convenient base for trips to Wolin, Międzyzdroje and Kamień Pomorski.
