Ożarów 260, Wieś Ożarów
The windmill in Kocilewo stands on the edge of the village of Ożarów in Wieluń County, not far from the well-known wooden fortified manor house. It is a wooden post mill, tied for generations to the Kowalski family, who made their living from milling. Today it is looked after by the Museum of the Wieluń Land.
The original mill was destroyed by fighting in 1914 and rebuilt four years later by Roman Kowalski. After the war it worked for another decade and a half — in 1960 private milling was banned and the building was turned into a store. Stripped of its sails, it decayed until the 1990s, when the museum and local enthusiasts launched a rescue restoration, completed in 2006.
The interior, with its preserved milling mechanism, is opened by prior arrangement with the museum. From the outside the mill can be seen at any time; it stands in open ground and is clearly visible from the road.
