Szczecinek
The Bismarck Tower stands on the south-eastern shore of Lake Trzesiecko, in a park on the edge of Szczecinek. The stone structure was raised in 1910 as a monument honouring Chancellor Otto von Bismarck and served no practical purpose at the time. On anniversaries a great fire was lit at its top.
After the war attempts were made to rename the building the Przemysław Tower, but the name never caught on in everyday use. For decades the tower and the ground around it fell into decay, as its patron was no favourite among local residents. Restoration of the park and repairs to the structure brought back its original appearance and gave it a new role: today it serves as a viewing tower looking out over the lake and the townscape.
A walking and cycling path runs right around the lake, and the tower is one of its natural stopping points. The municipal beaches and the marina are close by. Narrow stairs lead up to the gallery.
