Solina, Wieś Solina
The dam at Solina blocks the San valley at the point where the Solinka joins it, creating Lake Solińskie — the largest retention reservoir in the country. The concrete structure is 82 metres high and 664 metres long, which makes it the tallest construction of its kind in Poland. At its foot works a pumped-storage power plant, one of the largest in the country.
A publicly accessible walkway runs along the crest of the dam, with the surface of the lake on one side and the San valley on the other. The interior — the inspection galleries and the machine hall — can be seen individually or with a guide; groups usually book a slot in advance. It is a rare chance to see hydraulic engineering from the inside.
The dam is the central tourist point of the Western Bieszczady. Beaches and marinas line the lake in Polańczyk, Solina and Myczkowce, and excursion boats set out from here. In season the traffic can be heavy, so morning is the better time for a visit.
