Wieś Węsiory
The stone circles in Węsiory are one of the best known archaeological sites in Kashubia, set on a rise not far from the village. The complex comprises four stone circles, around twenty barrows and more than a hundred and forty burial places scattered across the wooded ground.
The site is linked to the Wielbark culture and to peoples who reached Pomerania from southern Scandinavia. Burials were made from the late first century AD until the turn of the second and third centuries. Excavations uncovered over a hundred graves, both cremation and inhumation, together with well preserved ornaments and jewellery, now displayed in the Archaeological Museum in Gdańsk.
A marked trail with information boards runs through the site, and walking the whole complex takes about an hour. The place has a quiet, forest character and is a frequent destination for walks from nearby holiday resorts. Comfortable shoes are useful, as the ground is uneven.
