Gdynia
Jastrząb-Kobben is a Type 207 submarine built at the Emden shipyard for the Norwegian Navy. It belonged to a series of fifteen sister boats and sailed under the Norwegian flag for nearly four decades. Today it is moored in Gdynia at the Polish Naval Academy.
After being withdrawn from front-line duty the boat came to Poland and was handed over to the Naval Academy as a training vessel. It was modernised at the Naval Shipyard, after which laboratories for underwater navigation, torpedo armament and marine propulsion were installed inside the hull, together with a damage-control training station.
The tour is short but memorable: a cramped hull packed with pipework, valves, bunks and combat stations shows the reality of submarine service better than any display case. It combines well with a walk along the Gdynia waterfront and the other museum ships.
